Central Avenue Mini Skate Park & Skate Plaza
San Diego, CA
DESCRIPTION
The Central Avenue Mini Park and Skate Plaza Project in the City Heights community was a collaborative effort that involved the City of San Diego and community groups to develop a previously 0.64-acre vacant lot into a much-needed resource for residents. The park included play equipment for different age groups, open turf area, picnic plaza with game tables and a skate plaza.
As the Project Manager/Landscape Architect on the project, RE Services staff member, David Preciado led the consultant team to develop the technical design and preparation of construction documents for this project that entailed a team of specialized team members to design an engaging skate park. As part of the planning process, David was a key contributor in several community meetings to determine the skate plaza’s components as well as the design and form of the park. With the help of the project team, the city was able to develop this once underutilized lot into a community asset for decades to come.
This project was completed in 2017 with a total project cost of $2 million.
