SuperLoop – UCSD Gilman Transit Center
UCSD Campus, La Jolla CA

DESCRIPTION

The Gilman Transit Center project at UCSD is part of the SuperLoop Bus Rapid Transit line of the overall bus network within the North City area.  The project links UCSD, Nobel Park, and all areas in between via bus routes along Nobel, Judicial, Executive, Voigt and Gilman Drives in the La Jolla region serving residential communities were UCSD students and faculty reside.  This project was intended to meet the growing needs for a centralized bus station to serve the several transportation services that serve the UCSD campus. Design services included the preparation of conceptual station design, conceptual site plan, landscape design and construction documents, including seat wall design, bioretention swales, tree salvage and relocation, and bike rack furnishings. The biggest challenge was to keep this fast-paced project on track for completion prior to the upcoming school year.  Early communication with the Contractor and metal fabricators resulted in a smooth process for constructing the site improvements prior to the receipt and installation of the bus stop shelters, benches and railings.

David Preciado was the Principal Project Manager responsible for the preparation of a conceptual site design and construction documents for the UCSD Gilman Transit Center bus stop locations located at the Gilman-Myers intersection at the heart of the campus.
