East Valley Parkway Widening
Escondido, CA

DESCRIPTION

The East Valley Parkway Widening Project was a much need improvement for the City of Escondido to help mitigate multi-modal congestion and circulation by providing more lane capacity, intersection improvements for safety, new sidewalks, and designated bike lanes along this 0.65-mile segment. Additionally, the undergrounding of overhead utilities further enhanced the improved visual corridor of this corridor.

The project entailed the design of the roadway to complete the widening of the corridor from one lane to two lanes in each direction with new signaled intersections for safe traffic movements. David Preciado, while with another employer, was the Project Landscape Architect responsible for the preparation of conceptual streetscape design and Landscape Concept Plan for presentation to the Design Review Committee for approval of colored stamped pavings, landscape plantings and entry signage monument. Ultimately, the goal of providing a vision for the corridor by providing a consistent landscape theme commensurate with the City of Escondido and surrounding master planned community was achieved. The project won the 2019 American Public Works Association ‘Honor Award’ for Roadway Widening category.

This project was completed in 2017 with a total project cost of $2 million.
